Juliyaa returns with her second headline show Somerset Close LIVE featuring an explosive set of music from her new EP Somerset Close, and previously unheard material. Somerset Close is the name of the North London road where Juliyaa created her EP with long-term collaborator producer Basil Hanson.
This project sees Juliyaa co-produce a record that showcases her trademark high-energy soul and a burgeoning sense of her own artistry.
The night will also feature visuals from Samuel Mensah (SMB Studios) and special guest performances...including the incredible Bianca Rose.
Hailing from North London, singer-songwriter Juliyaa performs a unique brand of music she has coined as ‘rhythmic soul’. Rooted in polyrhythms and layered with soulful harmonies, the MOBOs describe her sound as, 'beautiful vocal arrangements and harmonies, full of energy and glorious instrumentation'.
In late 2011 she released her debut single The Rhythm, and went on to win the 2011 GUBA Award for Best New Music Act. In early 2012 she released her second single Smile and launched her '10 Days of Smile Campaign' performing random acts of kindness to others, which received nationwide coverage in the Metro Newspaper.
In 2012 she released her debut EP Stars & Dragons which went on to receive glowing reviews on a host of music blogs including Soul Culture, SBTV and Clash Music; and she was named Pride Magazine's 'One to Watch' for 2013. Tracks from her EP have been featured on nationwide radio stations including BBC 1Xtra and BBC Radio 6. The title track Stars & Dragons has been featured on Tom Robinson's BBC Introducing Mixtape in late 2012.
After her debut headline gig sold-out prestigious London arts venue Richmix in 2013, she has been performing at gigs and festivals across the UK with her four-piece band The Revvs. She is now releasing her eagerly anticipated follow up EP Somerset Close.
